In November 2025, Emanuel V. Towfigh<\/span><\/span><\/em> was invited to China for nearly a week to participate in high-level academic events and to contribute his perspectives to international scholarly debates.<\/p>\n

The visit began on 6 November 2025<\/strong> with the workshop \u00bbNew ideas in legal scholarship\u00ab<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0at the Peking University Law School<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>. Together with international colleagues, Emanuel V. Towfigh<\/em> discussed recent developments in legal scholarship and their implications for future methodological and interdisciplinary approaches.<\/p>\n

On 8 November 2025<\/strong>, he participated as a panelist in the session \u00bb<\/span>Anti-Discrimination Law at a Crossroad: Challenges of Generative AI\u00ab<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0at the Beijing Forum 2025<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Beijing Forum is an annual international academic conference founded in 2004. It is sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Government and supervised by the Ministry of Education of the People\u2019s Republic of China. Co-organizers include Peking University<\/a>, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, and the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Over the past two decades, more than 7,000 senior officials and scholars have participated in the Forum. The 2025 edition focused on the overarching theme \u00bb<\/span>Artificial Intelligence, Law, and Society\u00ab<\/span>\u00a0and brought together experts from around the world.<\/p>\n

On 9 November 2025<\/strong>, the visit continued in Wuzhen, where Emanuel V. Towfigh<\/em> took part as a panelist in a roundtable discussion at the World Internet Forum Wuzhen<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. The panel, titled \u00bb<\/span>Building Common Ground for Good Law and Governance for AI\u00ab<\/span><\/strong>, addressed the question of how global standards for the responsible regulation of artificial intelligence can be developed and coordinated.<\/p>\n

To conclude his stay, Prof. Towfigh returned to Beijing on 10 November 2025<\/strong> and delivered a lecture entitled \u00bbRecent Developments of Law and Economics in Europe and Germany\u00ab<\/strong>\u00a0as part of the Global and Comparative Law Lecture Series<\/strong> at Peking University Law School. His presentation highlighted recent developments in the field and their impact on legal policy debates and legal practice in Europe.<\/p>\n

Emanuel V. Towfigh<\/em> extends his sincere thanks to the inviting institutions for their generous hospitality and for the inspiring academic exchange, which made the visit a particularly rewarding scholarly experience.<\/p>\n
