At the invitation of the ETH Center for Law & Economics, a group of former students of Christoph Engel—accompanied by their own early-career researchers—gathered for a two-day workshop on 30–31 October 2026. The meeting took place at Villa Hatt, overlooking Zurich.
In a familiar yet inspiring atmosphere, participants presented their current research projects. The topics ranged from issues of democracy, data protection, and patent law to machine learning and other interfaces between law, economics, and technology.
The meeting continued a scholarly tradition tracing back to Ernst-Joachim Mestmäcker, the academic mentor of Christoph Engel: a tradition of intergenerational exchange among researchers shaped by a shared academic lineage.
Participants:
Christoph Engel, Anne van Aaken, Luca Baltensperger, Stefan Bechtold, Andreas Gloeckner, Désirée Klingler, Michael Kurschilgen, Jakob Merane, Alexander Morell, Niels Petersen, Emanuel V. Towfigh
